With the participation of 54 teams from more than seven countries, the eleventh Punta Cana 2022 International Baseball Tournament was inaugurated, an event dedicated to the immortal of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, Roberto Alomar, who was sharing with the children and young people participating in said tournament.
Alomar fue reconocido por la sala capitular del Ayuntamiento de Bavaro- Verón, Punta Cana, como visitante distinguido, además también por la institución deportiva.
Raúl Vazquez, better known as Banana, was also recognized at the event for his years of experience in baseball development.
Also present at the inauguration were Lino Rivera, a renowned leader of Puerto Rican and Dominican professional baseball and Scout of more than 15 MLB organizations, and Mr. Jorge Ramos, interim mayor of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
The tournament will run until next Friday, with 27 matches played daily at the Nisibón, La Otra Banda Hotel Occidental and RD Complex Punta Cana stadiums.
Teams ranging in age from eight to 18 from Guatemala, Mexico, Aruba, Curacao, Venezuela, the United States, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic were present in this division, once again positioning this baseball tournament as one of the most interesting in the world, with more than 20 players parading through the ranks who have now reached the major leagues, including Vladimir Guerrero Junior, Amet Rosario, Jayson Peña, among others.
Robinson Paredes, presidente de la institución, respectivamente, expresaron el regocijo que siente al ver que cada año más equipos se suman a este proyecto de turismo deportivo el cual necesita un impulso mayor de parte del Ministerio de Turismo, ya que el concepto atrae cada año más turistas que ocupan las habitaciones y consumen los productos y servicios que ofrece la zona de Punta Cana.
